7 Reasons to Read the Glorious Quran

(1) Intimate:
It dares you to disprove it. How? It says that humans can not write a book like this even if they pooled all their resources together and got help also from the spirits. The Quran said this fourteen hundreds years ago and yet no one has been able to disprove it. Billions of books have been written - but not another one like the Quran.

(2) Incorruptible:
It is the only religious sacred writing which has been in circulation for such a long time and yet remains as pure as it was in the beginning. The Quran was kept intact. Nothing was added to it; nothing was changed in it; and nothing was taken away from it ever since it was completely revealed 1400 years ago.

(3) Unsurpassable:
The Quran is God's final revelation to humankind. God revealed the Torah to Moses, the Psalms to David, the Gospel to Jesus, and finally the Quran to Muhammad. Peace be upon all of them. No other book will come from God to surpass his final revelation.

(4) Indisputable:
The Quran withstands the test of time and scrutiny. No one can dispute the truth of this book. It speaks about past history and turns out right. It speaks about the future in prophecies and it turns out right. It mentions details of physical phenomena which were not known to people at the time; yet later scientific discoveries confirm that the Quran was right all along. Every other book needs to be revised to accord with modern knowledge. The Quran alone is never contradicted by a modern discovery.

(5) Your Roadmap for Life and Afterlife:
The Quran is the best guidebook on how to structure your life. No other book presents such a comprehensive system involving all aspects of human life and endeavor. The Quran also points out the way to secure everlasting happiness in the afterlife. It is your roadmap showing how to get to paradise.

(6) God's Gift of Guidance:
God has not left you alone. You were made for a reason. God tells you why he made you, what he demands from you, and what he has in store for you. If you operate a machine contrary to it's manufacture specification you will ruin that machine. What about you? Do you have an owner's manual for you? The Quran is from your function for success lest you fail to function. It is a healing merc y from God. It satisfies the soul, and cleans the heart. It removes doubts and brings peace.

(7) Your Calling Card to Communicate with God:
Humans are social creatures. We love to communicate with other intelligent life. The Quran tells us how to communicate with the source of all intelligence and the source of all life- the One God. The Quran tells us who God is, by what name we should address God, and the way in which to communicate with God. Are these not seven sufficient reasons for reading the Quran?

The declaration of Faith

To know the meaning of the Declaration of Faith: 'Ash-hadu an lâ ilâha illallâhu, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Rasûlullâh' and to know the conditions of the statement: 'Lâ ilâha illallâh'. The meaning of the Declaration of Faith is: I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allâh, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His Messenger. The phrase 'Lâ ilâha' negates the existence of all deities, while the phrase 'ilâllah' confirms the right of Lordship and Godship to Allâh Who Alone deserves to be worshipped.

The conditions of this declaration are as follows:

1. Knowledge which negates ignorance.

2. Certainty which negates doubt.

3. Sincerity of worship which negates Shirk.

4. Truthfulness which negates lying.

5. Love which negates hate.

6. Complete submission which negates rebellion.

7. Acceptance which negates rejection.

8. Rejection of all those that are unjustly worshipped besides Allâh SWT.

Six Articles of Faith

Muslim doctrine is summarized in "Six Articles of Faith."

According to this list, to be a Muslim one must believe in:

  1. Only Allah;
  2. The angels of Allah;
  3. The books of Allah, Qur'an-e-Majeed;
  4. The prophets of Allah, Hazrat Mohammad Salallah-o-Alaeh-e-Wasallam;
  5. The Day of Judgment (or the afterlife); and
  6. The supremacy of Allah's will (or predestination).

Six Kalimahs

The Kalimah is the essence of Islam. A true Muslim is one who is completely aware of the meaning of the Kalimah, proclaims it with sincerity and devotion, and acts and lives in accordance to its requirements.

Kalimah-e-Tayyabah (Word of Purity)

Laaa Ilaaha Illa-llaahu Muhammadur-Rasoolu-llaah
There is none worthy of worship except Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.

Kalimah-e-Shahadah (Word of Testimony)

Ash-hadu Al-laaa Ilaaha Illa-llaahu Wahdahoo Laa Shareeka Lahoo Wa-Ash-hadu Anna Muhammadan ‘Abduhoo Wa Rasooluhu.
I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, the One alone, without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.

Kalimah-e-Tamjeed (Word of Glorification)

Subhaana-llaahi Walhamdu Lillaahi Walaaa Ilaaha Illa-llaahu Wallaahu Akbar. Walaa Hawla Walaa Quwwata Illaa Billaahi-l ‘Aliyyil ‘Azeem.
Glory be to Allah and all praise be to Allah, there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. There is no might or power except from Allah, the Exalted, the Great One.

Kalimah-e-Tauhid (Word of Unification)

Laaa Ilaaha Illa-llaahu Wahdahoo Laa Shareeka-lahoo Lahu-l Mulku Walahu-l Hamdu Yuhyee Wayumeetu Wahuwa Hayyu-l Laa Yamootu Abadan Abada. Dhu-l Jalaali Wal Ikraam. Biyadihil Khair. Wahuwa Alaa Kulli Shai-’in Qadeer.
There is none worthy of worship except Allah. He is alone and has no partner. To Him belongs the Kingdom and for Him is all praise. He gives life and causes death. In His hand is all good and He has power over everything.

Kalimah-e-Astaghfar (Word of Penitence)

Astaghfiru-llaaha Rabbi Min Kulli Dhambin Adhnabtuhoo ‘Amadan Aw Khata-an Sirran Aw ‘Alaaniyata-wn Wa-atoobu Ilaihi Min-adh Dhambi-l Ladhee A’lamu Wamina-dh Dhambi-l Ladhi Laaa A’lamu Innaka Anta ‘Allaamu-l Ghuyoobi Wasattaaru-l ‘Uyoobi Wa Ghaffaaru-dh Dhunubi Walaa Hawla Walaa Quwwata Illaa Billaahi-l ‘Aliyyil ‘Azeem.
I seek forgiveness from Allah, who is my Creator and Cheriser, from every sin I committed knowingly or unknowingly, secretly or openly. I also seek His forgiveness for all sins which I am aware of or am not aware of. Certainly You (O Allah!), are the Knower of the hidden and the Concealer of mistakes and the Forgiver of sins. And there is no power and no strength except from Allah, the Most High, the Most Great.

Kalimah-e-Rud-e-Kuffr (Word of Rejection of Disbelief)

Allaa-humma Inneee A’udhu-bika Min An Ushrika Bika Shay-awn Wa-ana A’lamu Bihee Wa-astaghfiruka Limaa Laaa A’lamu Bihee Tubtu ‘Anhu Wata-barraatu Mina-l Kufri Wash-shirki Wal-kidhbi Wal-gheebati Wal-bid’ati Wan-nameemati Wal-fawahishi Wal-buhtaani Wal-m’aasi Kulli-haa Wa-Aslamtu Wa-aqoolu Laaa Ilaaha Illa-llaahu Muhammadu-r Rasoolu-llah.
O Allah! I seek refuge in You from that I should ascribe any partner with You knowingly. I seek Your forgiveness for the sin of which I have no knowledge. I repent from it. And becoming disgusted of disbelief and idolatry, lying and backbiting, innovation and slander, lewdness and abomination and all other acts of disobedience, I submit to Your will. I believe and I declare that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.

Pillars of Islam

The Five Pillars of Islam refer to the five duties that every Muslim must perform. The first of these five pillars is the declaration of faith and the other four are religious acts that are performed either daily, once a year or at least once in a lifetime. These acts are woven into the lives of Muslims and take precedence over all worldly matters.
The Five Pillars of Islam are
  • Declaration of Faith (Shahadah)
  • Prayer (Salah)
  • Charity (Zakah)
  • Fasting (Sawm)
  • Pilgrimage (Hajj)

Declaration of Faith (Shahadah)
The most basic requirement of being a Muslim is to publicly state the words “There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is His Messenger”, in arabic, with sincerity and without any reservations. This testament is the foundation for all other beliefs and practices in Islam. To become a Muslim, a non-Muslim must repeat the Shahadah three times in the presence of witnesses.
The statement of Shahada in arabic is:
Ashhadu Alla Ilaha Illa Allah Wa Ashhadu Anna Muhammad Rasulu Allah
The statement of faith must be a genuine belief that includes the following articles of faith.
Belief in One God (Allah) - Allah is one and has no partners or equals. Belief in the Prophets - Allah sent prophets to every nation (Qur’an, An-Nahl, 16:36) to provide mankind with guidance, so that they could walk the straight path of Allah, live happily in this world and be prepared for life after death. Their fundamental message was identical, reminding mankind of Allah’s oneness, the reward of a good life, the day of judgment and the terrible punishment for disbelievers. Belief in the Holy Books - Allah sent messages to humanity through His prophets. These messages are contained in the Holy Books of Allah: The Suhuf (Scrolls), revealed to the prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), and now lost The Taurut (Torah), revealed to the prophet Musa (Moses) The Zabur (Psalms), revealed to the prophet Daud (David) The Injil (Gospels), revealed to the prophet Isa (Jesus) The Qur’an, revealed to the prophet Muhammad (Sal Allahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) Belief in Angels - In addition to the physical world we know, Allah created a world invisible to us in which angels exist. The angels are sinless. They require no food, drink or sleep. They have neither physical desires or material needs. The chief responsibility of the angels is to praise Allah and to do his will. The most important of the angels is Jibr’il (Gabriel). On behalf of Allah, Jibr’il (Gabriel) revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (Sal Allahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) his mission and the perfect verses of the Holy Qur’an. Each human being is assigned two angels who serve as guardians and recorders of the individual’s deeds, both good and bad.
Belief in the Day of Judgement - The belief of life after death and in the resurrection of the dead on the Day of Judgement is an essential part of Islamic faith. It gives meaning to life and sets the joys and troubles of this life into a much wider context. Any person who believes in life after death will be afraid of acting against the will of Allah. He will be conscious of the fact that Allah is watching all his actions and the angels are recording them.

Belief in Fate - Everything that happens is the will of Allah and is preordained. Acceptance of fate is an essential element in submitting to the will of Allah.

Prayer (Salah)Every Muslim is required to pray five times a day. The five prayers are:
Salat al-Fajr Salat al-Zuhr Salat al-Asr Salat al-Maghrib Salat al-Isha These five prayers are said at dawn, mid day, late afternoon, sunset and nightfall. The Prophet Muhammad (Sal Allahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said, “The first act that the slave (of Allah) will be accountable for on the day of judgement will be the prayer. If it is good, then the rest of his acts will be good. And if it is evil, then the rest of his acts will be evil.”

Charity (Zakah)Every Muslim is obligated to pay a portion of his or her wealth for the benefit of the poor and needy. Zakat means “purification” and “growth”. Our possessions are purified by setting aside a portion for those in need. This also increases social welfare and encourages economic growth.
A Muslim may also donate more as an act of Sadaqah (voluntary charity), in order to achieve additional reward from Allah.

Fasting (Sawm)Every year in the month of Ramadan Muslims are required to abstain from food, drink and sexual intercourse from dawn to dusk. In addition, Muslims are expected to refrain from anger, envy, greed, lust, gossip, violence, bad language and other inappropriate thoughts and actions. Fasting is meant to encourage Muslims to seek nearness to Allah, be patient, and learn the hardships faced by the less fortunate.

Pilgrimage (Hajj)Hajj is a pilgrimage to the Holy City of Makkah (Mecca). Hajj occurs every year during the month of Dhu’l-Hijjah. Every Muslim who is physically and financially able, is obligated to perform Hajj at least once in his or her lifetime.

~Virtues of Hijab~

1. An act of obedience. The hijab is an act of obedience to Allah and to his prophet (pbuh), Allah says in the Qur'an: `It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allah and His messenger have decreed a matter that they should have an option in their decision. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, has indeed strayed in a plain error.' (S33:36).
Allah also said: 'And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things) and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc) and not to show off their adornment except what must (ordinarily) appear thereof, that they should draw their veils over their Juyubihinna.'(S24:31).
Juyubihinna: The respected scholars from As-Salaf As-Saleh (righteous predecessors) differed whether the veil cover of the body must include the hands and face or not. Today, respected scholars say that the hands and face must be covered. Other respected scholars say it is preferable for women to cover their whole bodies.
2.The Hijab is IFFAH (Modesty).
Allah (subhana wa'atala) made the adherence to the hijab a manifestation for chastity and modesty. Allah says: 'O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) over their bodies (when outdoors). That is most convenient that they should be known and not molested.' (S33:59).
In the above Ayaah there is an evidence that the recognition of the apparent beauty of the woman is harmful to her. When the cause of attraction ends, the restriction is removed. This is illustrated in the case of elderly women who may have lost every aspect of attraction. Allah (swt) made it permissible for them to lay aside their outer garments and expose their faces and hands reminding, however, that is still better for them to keep their modesty.
3. The hijab is Tahara (Purity)
Allah (swt) had shown us the hikma (wisdom) behind the legislation of the hijab: `And when you ask them (the Prophet's wives) for anything you want, ask them from behind a screen, that is purer for your hearts and their hearts.' (S33:53).
The hijab makes for greater purity for the hearts of believing men and women because it screens against the desire of the heart. Without the hijab, the heart may or may not desire. That is why the heart is more pure when the sight is blocked (by hijab) and thus the prevention of fitna (evil actions is very much manifested. The hijab cuts off the ill thoughts and the greed of the sick hearts: `Be not soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease (of hypocrisy or evil desire for adultery, etc) should be moved with desire, but speak in an honourable manner.' (S33:32)
4. The hijab is a Shield
The prophet (pbuh) said: "Allah, Most High, is Heaven, is Ha'yeii (Bashful), Sit'teer (Shielder). He loves Haya' (Bashfulness) and Sitr (Shielding; Covering)."
The Prophet (pbuh) also said: "Any woman who takes off her clothes in other than her husband's house (to show off for unlawful purposes), has broken Allah's shield upon her. "
The hadith demonstrates that depending upon the kind of action committed there will be either reward (if good) or punishment (if bad).
5. The hijab is Taqwah (Righteousness)
Allah (swt) says in the Qur'an: O children of Adam! We have bestowed raiment upon you to cover yourselves (screen your private parts, etc) and as an adornment. But the raiment of righteousness, that is better.'(S7:26).
The widespread forms of dresses in the world today are mostly for show off and hardly taken as a cover and shield of the woman's body. To the believing women, however the purpose is to safeguard their bodies and cover their private parts as a manifestation of the order of Allah. It is an act of Taqwah (righteousness).
6. The hijab is Eemaan (Belief or Faith)
Allah (swt) did not address His words about the hijab except to the believing women, Al-Mo'minat. In many cases in the Qur'an Allah refers to the "the believing women". Aisha (RA), the wife of the prophet (pbuh), addressed some women from the tribe of Banu Tameem who came to visit her and had light clothes on them, they were improperly dressed: "If indeed you are believing women, then truly this is not the dress of the believing women, and if you are not believing women, then enjoy it."
7. The hijab is Haya' (Bashfulness)
There are two authentic hadith which state: "Each religion has a morality and the morality of Islam is haya'" AND "Bashfulness is from belief, and belief is in Al-Jannah (paradise)". The hijab fits the natural bashfulness which is a part of the nature of women.
8. The hijab is Gheerah
The hijab fits the natural feeling of Gheerah, which is intrinsic in the straight man who does not like people to look at his wife or daughters. Gheerah is a driving emotion that drives the straight man to safeguard women who are related to him from strangers. The straight MUSLIM man has Gheerah for ALL MUSLIM women In response to lust and desire, men look (with desire) at other women while they do not mind that other men do the same to their wives or daughters. The mixing of sexes and absence of hijab destroys the Gheera in men. Islam considers Gheerah an integral part of faith. The dignity of the wife or daughter or any other Muslim woman must be highly respected and defended.

Belief and faith are the two things

Belief and faith are the two things that regulate man and – as we can see in most cases – they are of two types:
- Belief in the importance of virtue and human dignity, and other abstract values which make noble souls feel ashamed to go against their principles even if they are spared the consequences of physical punishment.
- Belief in Allaah and that He is always watching and knows what is in our hearts, and that He knows secrets and that which is more hidden. The authority of sharee’ah is based on its commands and prohibitions, and makes a person feel shy before Allaah, either out of love for Him, or out of fear of Him, or both. Undoubtedly this type of faith is the stronger of the two and carries more weight in human hearts. It is more able to resist the storms of desire and the upheavals of emotion, and it has more effect on the hearts of the masses and the elite.
For this reason, religion is the best guarantee for ensuring that people will deal with one another on a basis of fairness and justice, and hence it is a social necessity. It comes as no surprise that the relationship of religion to the ummah is like that of the heart to the body. Nowadays we see that there are many religions in the world, and each people has its religion which they cling to. What is the true religion which will fulfil the aspirations of the human soul? What are the guidelines of the true religion?

Full knowledge can only be attained by knowing

1- Knowing Allaah, the Creator and Provider Who created man from nothing and bestowed blessings upon him.
2- Knowing the names and attributes of Allaah, and the effect of these names upon His slaves.
3- Knowing the way to reach Him.
4- Knowing the obstacles that prevent man from knowing this way and the great blessings to which it leads.
5- Knowing yourself in a true sense, and knowing what your soul needs, what is good for it and what is bad for it, and knowing its faults and shortcomings.
These five matters will complete a person’s knowledge. Achieving perfect will power can only be achieved by paying attention to the rights of Allaah over His slaves and fulfilling them sincerely, adhering to that and bearing witness to the blessings of Allaah. These two strengths can only be perfected with the help of Allaah, so man needs Allaah to guide him to the Straight Path to which He guides His close friends. See al-Fawaa’id, p, 18-19.
Once we know that the true religion is the divine support that directs the potentials of man, then we know that religion is also a protective shield for society, because human life can only be strong when there is co-operation among the members of society. This co-operation can only be achieved by means of a system that regulates the relationships between them, defines their duties and protects their rights. This system needs a deterrent that will deter one from transgressing and encourage one to follow the system, one that carries weight in people’s hearts and prevents them from overstepping its limits. What is this authority? I say that there is no power on earth that can match the power of religion in protecting the sanctity of the system, guaranteeing the coherence of society and the stability of its system, and providing the means of peace and security.
The reason for that is that man differs from all other living beings in that his voluntary actions and dealings are governed by something that can be neither seen nor heard, namely the religious belief that disciplines the heart and guides his faculties. Man is inevitably led by his belief, whether it is sound or corrupt. If his belief is sound, everything else will also be sound, but if it is corrupt then everything else will also be corrupt.

Love of Quran

It is an undeniable fact that no book was ever held as dear as the Quran. There are numerous inspiring stories of people’s love of Quran. We need not go in the distinct past; a look at the biographies of our Ulama who passed away in the recent years is enough to prove this fact. Ramadan is the month of Quran, so we mention a few stories of the servants of Quran.

(1) Syed Ata Ullah Shah Bukhari (rahimahullah) was blessed with immense love of Quran. He used to say in his speeches: “In my life, there is only one thing that I love and only one thing that I hate. It is Quran that I love and it is the British that I hate.” In fact his love of Quran would force him to hate the British. Jews and Christians harbour hardnosed enmity towards Islam and this fact is spread over the holy pages of Quran.

(2) Hazrat Maulana Qari Fateh Muhammad had devoted himself for the service of Quran. Mufti Taqi Usmani rightly says: “Qari Fateh Muhammad was a living miracle of Quran. His tongue was all the time busy reciting the Quran. He was always engrossed in thinking the best ways of spreading Quran education. He was at home in different accents of recitation. During Ramadan, he would lead the prayer of traveeh and recite seven to ten parts of Quran in one night. In this way he would complete the Quran in three or four days. Then he would again recite the whole Quran in some other accent. By the end of Ramadan he would recite the Quran for about ten times in traveeh alone.

(3) Sheikh-ul-Hadith Maulana Zakariya (rahimahullah) was a hafiz and recite the Quran immensely. For 42 years, it had been his routine that he would recite the whole Quran in each day of Ramadan. About his family women, he used to say, “Our family women spend most of their night time in listening to Quran and in the day time, it is their routine to recite about one half of the Quran. My grandmother was hafiz and it was her routine to recite one manzil of the Quran daily. And during Ramadan, she would recite the whole Quran plus one-third of it again in one day. In addition to this, she would recite thousands of tasbeeh as her permanent routine.

(4) Hazrat Mufti Rasheed Ahmad (rahimahullah) memorized the whole Quran in just three months at the age of 46 years. He did this in such a way that he would easily memorize one part of the Quran in one hour. Despite his tough scholarly engagements, he would spend a large amount of his time in reciting the Quran. He would recite five parts in day and as many at night in tahajjud prayer.

(5) Maulana Subhan Mahmud, sheikh-ul-hadith of Darul Uloom Karachi, was blessed with a special fondness of reciting the Quran. For a long time, it was his routine to recite the whole Quran daily. On becoming old and weak, he would recite more 18 parts of Quran. He continued with this routine till the day he breathed his last. During Ramadan, he would set aside all other activities and remained busy reciting the Quran day and night.

(6) Hazrat Qari Raheem Bukhsh was blessed with such immense love of Quran that except for natural human needs, he would not spend a single moment in which he was not teaching or reciting the Quran. His punctuality was proverbial. He never absented himself from teaching duty during 40 years. Whatever salary he withdrew from the madrasah, he returned it to the madrasah in a short period. His son Qari Abdullah said, “Since childhood, I never see my father miss his tahajjud prayer. He would recite three parts of Quran in tahajjud prayer.”Our history is full of Quran lovers. They were the people who not only recited the Quran by tongue but their every word and action gave the fragrance of Quran, and their routines and prayers were practical explanation of Quran.

Oath [Hadiths]

Guidance from The Prophet (saws)

Hadrat Abdullah Ibn Umar (r.a.) said: 'The Messenger of Allah (saws) said, "Allah has prohibited you from taking an oath by your fathers. He who must take an oath, may do so by swearing in the Name of Allah or he should remain silent.'''
Related by Bukhari and Muslim. quoted from Riyad-us-Saliheen (Hadith # 1707)

Commentary:

It is absolutely and categorically prohibited and forbidden for a believer who sincerely believes in Allah and the Last Day to take an oath in the name of one's father (or absolutely anything in creation)….for an oath can only be taken in the Blessed Name of Allah Subhanah, for He Alone is Truly a Witness to everything.

In another authentic narration the Messenger of Allah (saws) declared: 'He who takes an oath by anyone or anything other than Allah, has indeed committed an act of 'Kufr' (disbelief) or 'shirk' (polytheism).'

Team Tention

Team Tension

Every executive is thrilled to be working on a big project. Initially everything goes well with your team backing you to the hilt but suddenly things turn sour. What might start off as a small difference of opinion between team members blows into a major hassle. Tempers flay and everyone is filled with negativity. It is a case of team tension. The team tension arises because different team members bring varied experience, training and points of view to their work. So, how does one identify and solve the situation?

Recognize the symptoms: * Team members repeat ideas or points but no one seems to suggest anything new.
* Discussions are heated and arguments ensure.
* Team remembers start work on their ideas without informing others
* Some of them threaten to quit or refuse to come to an agreement.
* Team members use documentation for very little matter. They take everything in writing though documentation is useful it's doesn't really solve unresolved differences. Solving it:

Acknowledge it. The first step towards solving team tension is to acknowledge it. You can't pretend that everything is hunky dory with your team. This will take some bravery as you just have to state plainly to your team that something is wrong with the team some where. Take a break: Allow the situation to rest. Sleep on it. You can share your ideas with a colleague outside your department or with a senior professional. On many occasions team tensions are not resolved easily so be patient. Involve a mediator: You run the risk of being partial while solving team crisis. Hence it is better to review the situation by a third party. Present the situation before him/her in an objective manner and let the person suggest solutions. Decide on what really matters: There has to be a reason why you are keen to sort out an issue. If it doesn't make a qualitative difference to the end result, then let it go. Or else, you review your goal with your team and get them to re-focus on the long term benefits.Be a Patient Listener: Have you really bothered to listen to both the parties? Practice active listening. Hear the story in detail rather than chipping in with your ideas or solutions. Discuss the matter with the concerned persons to understand whether you have comprehended the problems objectively. Such a display of empathy may encourage the parties to solve their differences. Compromise: Agree on a middle path. You will be surprised to see how accommodating other parties will be once you concede first. Don't let your ego prevent you from doing this. List down the Agreements: Take note of all points that the entire team has agreed on. Stress on the core values and common steps. This will spur them to cooperate in a better manner. Apologies: Say sorry for being dominating yelling making accusations or not showing proper understanding, etc. Humility can go a long way healing buried egos. Team tension is a part and parcel of corporate life. When you have a team of strong individuals, tensions are bound to arise. Strive to keep differences minor and temporary. Whenever a senior executive leaves another or a better organization he takes along with him a team of people working with the present employer to the new employer. Looking at the numerous adverse affects of this practice, many organizations are now taking steps to curb it. One such step is putting clauses in the employment contract of senior employees wherein they cannot take their teams along if they are on their way out. Recently we were asked by our investor to put these clauses in the employment contracts. It is fair as the organizations tend to invest heavily to create these teams.Supervising a young team:When we talk teams it can include supervising youngsters to be quite a challenge. Most of them are too aggressive, hyper, excited or nervous for your liking. But it is this dynamic bunch that will the company looks forward in the coming years. Here are few tips that will help you supervise over the youngsters in a better manner. Behave nicely: Though they look chirpy, most youngsters feel; nervous within even what they are asked to do small tasks. Make sure you do not intimidate or demoralize them by any form of aggressive or condescending behavior. Always remember that they are your colleagues and treat them with respect.Always ask for ideas: Young people get a morale booster when their supervisor/ managers take their opinion. It reaffirms his/her faith in their intelligences and capabilities. This motivates them to put on their best show. Like wise when you assign a task to a youngster avoid nitpicking or offer help even when it is not needed. This lowers their self worth as well as ability to make decisions.

Do not let them Loose: While it is okay to be friendly with your young team members, it is equally important to stay in authority. It should be made clear that they must consult you for certain matters and follow a certain system of working. Since, you are ultimately responsible for them; it helps to stay in control. H
ave a positive approach: Be cheerful and confident while interacting with your young team. Whining, lack of enthusiasm or negative behavior will dampen their spirits. Criticize constructively rather than for the heck of it.
Give proper instructions: many youngsters are clueless about even the most simplest of tasks. When you just assign a task and move ahead, they start feeling hesitant about approaching you for help. But when you offer instructions or a proper procedure to follow while doing a task, you automatically become more accessible to them.Show recognition: A compliment can go a long way in boosting the morale of a youngster. Recognize the contribution of every young team member and applaud them for for their efforts. This will build better emotional bonds.
Three envelopes >>>>:

A fellow has just been hired as a new CEO of a large high tech corporation The CEO who was stepping down met with him privately and presented him with three numbered envelopes. Open these if you run up against a problem you don't think you can solve. Well things went along pretty smoothly, but six months later, sales took a downturn and he was really catching a lot of heat. About at his wits end, he remembered the envelopes. He went to his drawer and took out the first envelope. The message read 'Blame your predecessor'. The new CEO called a press conference and tactfully laid the blame at the feet of the previous CEO. Satisfied with his comments, the press responded positively sales began to pick up and the problem was soon behind him. About a year later, the company was again experiencing a slight dip in sales, combined with serious product problems. Having learned from his previous experience, the CEO quickly opened the second envelope. The message read, Recognize. This he did and the company quickly rebounded. After several consecutive profitable quarters the company once again fell on difficult times. The CEO went to his office closed the door ad opened to third envelope. The message said "Prepare three envelopes".

Balance exercises improve stability, help prevent falls

Forward leg lift

Balance exercises can help you avoid falls and broken bones as you age. If your balance is good and you want to keep it that way, try these balance exercises.

If you have severe balance problems or certain orthopedic conditions, see your doctor before beginning these exercises.

Do balance exercises at least once a day most days of the week. Start by holding on to a table or wall with one hand. Then try placing only a fingertip on the surface while you do balance exercises. If you're unsteady, ask someone to stand nearby.

To do a forward leg lift:

  • Lift one leg slightly off the floor
  • Hold for five seconds
  • Repeat at least five times
  • Switch to other leg

  • Forward toe touch

    • Place your feet about shoulder-width apart. Raise your hands to your shoulders with your palms facing forward.
    • Extend your right arm and place your left foot forward, pointing down with your toes and touching the floor.
    • Return to starting position and do the same with the opposite arm and foot. Repeat at least five times.
    • Stand on one leg

      • Place your feet about shoulder-width apart. Extend your arms straight in front of you.
      • Lift your left leg and bend it back. Hold for five seconds.
      • Repeat five times and switch legs.
      • As you improve, practice one-leg standing throughout the day. For example, stand on one leg while you're doing the dishes, reading the newspaper or watching TV. The more you do it, the more you'll improve

      • Tai chi

Tai chi is a noncompetitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise. To do tai chi, you stand and perform a defined series of postures or movements in a slow, graceful manner. Each movement or posture flows into the next without pausing.

Studies suggest that tai chi may improve balance and help prevent falls in older adults. Long-term tai chi practitioners have improved knee joint stability, which aids in balance.

Although tai chi is generally safe, consider talking with your doctor before signing up for a class. This is particularly true if you have any problems with your joints, spine or heart.

The essense of forgiveness

*One day, the sage gave the disciple an empty sack and a basket of potatoes.
'Think of all the people who have done or said something against you in the
recent past, especially those you cannot forgive. For each of them, inscribe
the name on a potato and put it in the sack.' The disciple came up quite a
few names, and soon his sack was heavy with potatoes.*

'Carry the sack with you wherever you go for a week,' said the sage. 'We'll
talk after that.'

At first, the disciple thought nothing of it. Carrying the sack was not
particularly difficult. But after a while, it became more of a burden. It
sometimes got in the way, and it seemed to require more effort to carry as
time went on, even though its weight remained the same.

After a few days, the sack began to smell. The carved potatoes gave off a
ripe odor. Not only were they increasingly inconvenient to carry around,
they were also becoming rather unpleasant.

Finally, the week was over. The sage summoned the disciple. 'Any thoughts
about all this?'

'Yes, Master,' the disciple replied. 'When we are unable to forgive others,
we carry negative feelings with us everywhere, much like these potatoes.
That negativity becomes a burden to us and, after a while, it festers.'

'Yes, that is exactly what happens when one holds a grudge. So, how can we
lighten the load?'

'We must strive to forgive.'

'Forgiving someone is the equivalent of removing the corresponding potato
from the sack. How many of your transgressors are you able to forgive?'

'I've thought about it quite a bit, Master,' the disciple said. 'It required
much effort, but I have decided to forgive all of them.'

'Very well, we can remove all the potatoes. Were there any more people who
transgressed against you this last week?'

The disciple thought for a while and admitted there were. Then he felt panic
when he realized his empty sack was about to get filled up again.

'Master,' he asked, 'if we continue like this, wouldn't there always be
potatoes in the sack week after week?'

'Yes, as long as people speak or act against you in some way, you will
always have potatoes.'

'But Master, we can never control what others do. So what good is the Tao in
this case?'

'We're not at the realm of the Tao yet. Everything we have talked about so
far is the conventional approach to forgiveness. It is the same thing that
many philosophies and most religions preach - we must constantly strive to
forgive, for it is an important virtue. This is not the Tao because there is
no striving in the Tao.'

'Then what is the Tao, Master?'

'You can figure it out. If the potatoes are negative feelings, then what is
the sack?'

'The sack is... That which allows me to hold on to the negativity. It is
something within us that makes us dwell on feeling offended.... Ah, it is my
inflated sense of self-importance. '

'And what will happen if you let go of it?'

'Then... The things that people do or say against me no longer seem like
such a major issue.'

'In that case, you won't have any names to inscribe on potatoes. That means
no more weight to carry around, and no more bad smells.

The Tao of forgiveness is the conscious decision to not just to remove some
potatoes... But to relinquish the entire sack.'

Flowers That Cure

What do flowers mean to you? Freshness? Probably. Romance? In some cases. Beauty? All the time. These are edifying attributes. They contribute to an indefinable feeling of happiness.
In short, flowers make us feel good.

It's a bit of a surprise to learn that flowers can contribute something rather more physical to our wellbeing.

Essential oils of flowers have been used for years in alternative therapies. A lot of research has gone into it and you'll find flowers in several creams, lotions and even capsules and tablets.

Let's Find Out then..!

The seeds of the evening primrose are used to produce evening primrose oil, an excellent source of the omega-6 essential fatty acid. This is used for several skin disorders, and may also help prevent diseases involving the breasts and central nervous system. Studies have shown that oral supplements containing this oil can help inflammatory skin conditions including eczema, and atopic dermatitis.

"Primrose oil is also beneficial for pre menstrual syndrome (PMS) and attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It is easily available in capsule form," says Dr Budhiraja.

Aside from its health benefits, says Dr Shushant Shetty, vice president, beauty services, at the beauty chain VLCC, evening primrose oil has good cosmetic uses. "It helps cure acne scars, dry eyes and dry skin, and also contributes to strong and healthy hair and younger looking skin," he says.

Doctors recommend sunflower oil as a cooking medium because sunflower seeds are an excellent source of vitamin E, the body's primary fat-soluble antioxidant. "Vitamin E also plays an important role in the prevention of cardiovascular disease," says Dr Budhiraja.

The vitamin E content is also useful if you have acne, because it soothes several types of skin irritations. "Like every other oil, sunflower oil helps the skin retain moisture. What sets sunflower oil apart, however, is that it provides the skin with a natural barrier against bacteria and other irritants that are at the root of most blemish issues" says Suparna Trikha, a natural beauty expert.

"That's why sunflower oil can be found in skin care products such as soaps, body wash and lotions," adds Dr Shetty.

Commonly known as the English marigold, calendula is particularly remarkable in the treatment of wounds. That's because it contains chemicals that increase blood flow to the affected area, and promote the production of collagen proteins.

"Calendula petals have anti-inflammatory, astringent, and antiseptic (antibacterial and antiviral) properties, and may even offer immune-stimulating actions," says Dr Amrit Kalsi, senior medical officer (homeopathy), Delhi government. "Astringent actions promote healing. Moreover, it can reduce the swelling and itching associated with insect bites and may even help to prevent infection due to its antimicrobial actions."

The dried petals of the calendula plant are used in tinctures, ointments, and washes to speed the healing of burns, bruises, and cuts. It is also drunk as a tea for gastro-intestinal disorders. "This tea can be refrigerated and used to take care of nappy rashes and sunburns," adds Suparna.

Says Blossom Kochhar, "Add marigold flowers to your bath water as they are effective for broken veins as well as certain types of acne."

While essential oils from geranium leaves are known for their toning, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial strengths, geranium can also help relax tight muscles. "Add the geranium flower to bath water as it helps improve circulation. Besides this, it is widely used in hand and body lotions and moisturisers," says Blossom.

The oil of the geranium makes a good astringent. "It also has great antiseptic properties and restores the balance to dry or oily skin and hair. You can also make a tea with the leaves and flowers. Geranium is perfect for making face creams and if you add oatmeal to it, you get an excellent body scrub," reveals Suparna.

The geranium also has soothing qualities and helps relieve symptoms of anxiety and insomnia as well as PMS. It is reputed to help heal bruises, sunburns and varicose veins too.

Chance or Intelligence?

Chance or Intelligence?
Contemplation

This Universe, indeed displays a remarkable vista of order and consistency. We can observe, for example, the great regularity with which the celestial bodies follow precise orbits, and marvel at the way in which water from the seas is brought to the land by wind-driven clouds, which are in turn formed by the evaporation of water: without this replenishment, life would be impossible. We are also amazed by the migration patterns of many species, including newborn eels, that trek through thousands of miles of ocean, to nestle in their own local streams, and of bees, who use sunlight for navigation in their quest for nectar.

We may ponder as to why all living things exist in pairs, and contemplate on the optimality of the processes which comprise the whole universe. Even incredibly minute changes would disrupt the balances in nature: after all, had the earth's orbit been slightly offset in either direction, water and the resulting forms of life would not have emerged. In fact, we observe great unity in the laws of the cosmos; through the spectrum of life and non-life ranging from the microcosmic subatomic particles to the macrocosmic expanse of the universe itself, integration is manifested on every level.

Reflection may lead us to pertinent questions: Could such encompassing order have arisen purely by un-intentioned accident? Or could there be an intelligent originator to this spectacular array of living and non-living forms —a designer that may have developed them through processes which have yet to be fully determined? What conclusions are evidential?

Is it probable that all the letters on this page unscrambled themselves by chance to form these meaningful and structured sentences? How then, could a human being - with ears, eyes and a mind - have been formed by chance? Is it credible that such a vast universe with an inestimable billions of galaxies could have evolved by accident? Does not the integration and complexity of a single cell far exceed that of a mere piece of paper with some intelligible writing on it, let alone this universe and all that it contains? (Especially since the universe also contains this piece of paper . . .!)

We know that we are not the cause of ourselves, for embryonic development is organized and directed in stages under natural laws. But directed by what and by whose laws? Chance? Or Intelligence? What about a multiplicity of infinite beings? Could such have been responsible for this cosmological fabrication? Would not the resulting state of this universe have then been disordered and chaotic due to the conflicting commands of these infinitely powerful entities, who would have been trying to accede to the throne of authority in rivalry? Indeed, in such a regime, we would expect to see inconsistency in the universe as opposed to consistency. Instead of rain, we might conceivably have received a heavy downpour of elephants from the skies. (An umbrella would certainly not be terribly useful in such a universe!) Such a scenario would also give rise to the question: which of the infinite beings came first? And why? On the other hand, if such a multiplicity of infinite beings were in perfect agreement for all time, then there would not be any need for more than one - nor is there any evidence.

If our response to the chance (un-intentioned creation) and multiplicity (creation by two or more beings) hypotheses is negative, then our answer has to lie between zero and two. In other words, there can only be one unique governing intelligence - unique by the virtue of having no demigods, intermediaries, mystical incarnate beings, or any other human or nonhuman associates. This vast singular intelligence, then, must have created and developed all living and non-living things, as well as space-time itself, and must therefore be independent of it.

If this is our conclusion, then it means that the myriad forms of matter and energy as well as the physiological structure of the human being must be subject to the natural laws of this singular and independent governing intelligence.

In addition to this involuntary physiological dependence of human beings to the prescribed natural laws, we are also endowed with a mind which has the capacity to voluntarily question and reason. A reasoning person would be naturally drawn to the logical conclusion of the existence of a unique originator, and therefore of a meaningful purpose to this existence. Such a person would live with this awareness, in peace with himself or herself and the rest of nature.

Indeed reasoning people live, and have been living throughout the ages in all parts of the world. They can be found dwelling in the midst of exuberant jungles or in our large, populous and crowded cities. What would distinguish such individuals would be the employment of reason as a foundation for life. If such a people are to be given a name which linguistically denotes 'voluntary peaceful submission' to this unique Intelligence, and which includes all of these attributes, a suitable term in one language would be the word Muslim.

10 Simple Ways to Honor Your Uniqueness

1. Take time for quiet daily. Yes, there is much that needs to get done. Once you maintain a habit of being quiet either to contemplate, pray, meditate you will be amazed how much more efficiently you will perform your tasks, duties and projects.

2. Treat yourself with as much care, if not more, than you treat others. Love and nurture yourself as you love and nurture those around you OR as you would LIKE to nurture those around you. Once you master caring for yourself, caring for others will become effortless and spring from the heart instead of from duty.

3. Accept compliments from others with grace. Never, ever disrespect the person you are complimenting by disregarding or negating their compliment. Instead, accept it as you would a treasure box or a long awaited gift. Be grateful they can see something extra special about you!

4. Spend time investing in and cultivating close friendships. Incorporate friend building activities into your daily routine. Exercise with a friend, share meals together, keep in touch with a brief email or 10 minute daily phone call (and time the call and KEEP the appointment.)

5. Surround yourself with beauty. Honor your home by decorating as a way to express who you are at your core. If you are bold, use bold colors and accessories. Light scented candles, listen to music you love, use soaps that are lathery and smell great. Go for the multi sensory approach.

6. Give joyfully and receive with open arms. Recognize that giving and receiving are on the same continuum and not separate at all! Learning to give completely translates into receiving more than you could ever plan or expect to receive. The results take care of themselves.

7. Become a part of a larger community. This may mean a mastermind group or it may be a circle of friends or a book discussion group. Connect yourself with people who share your interests, goals and vision for the world. Synergy will empower you incredibly when you join in a community where you can equally give and receive on a very regular basis.

8. Mentor someone simply for the pleasure of observing and becoming involved in their growth. Invite someone who does not have the same level as skills as you do along for the ride with you. Listen to their input and see what you can create together. Chances are you will learn a lot from them (and vice versa!) creating both a Win/Win situation as well as learning about your own strengths and weaknesses in the process.

9. Live a purposeful, vision, values, cause oriented life. Recognize and embrace that you are creating your life as a masterful artist each and every day. You can choose each day whether you want to simply let life happen each day or if you want to create it fully. Choose the latter.

10. Love yourself with all your heart, soul, and strength without attachment to what you are achieving in your life today. Be compassionate and understanding while also standing firm in the knowledge that you are both incredibly unique and incredibly capable. When you can master this balance, being attached to your outcomes is not an issue because you will be achieving outcomes beyond your own imagination. You will be so magnetic you will wonder where YOU have been all this time! The answer? You are RIGHT there, ready and waiting to follow these simple principles. Live with Passion. Today.

Take outtime for yourself

Taking Time for Yourself

Modern life compels us to rush. Because we feel pressured to make the most of our time each day, the activities that sustain us, rejuvenate us, and help us evolve are often the first to be sacrificed when we are in a hurry or faced with a new obligation. It is important we remember that there is more to life than achieving success, making money, and even caring for others. Your spiritual needs should occupy an important spot on your list of priorities. Each task you undertake and each relationship you nurture draws from the wellspring of your spiritual vitality. Taking the time to engage in spiritually fulfilling activities replenishes that well and readies you to face another day. Making time for the activities that contribute to your spiritual growth has little to do with being selfish and everything to do with your well-being. Regularly taking the time to focus on your soul's needs ensures that you are able to nurture yourself, spend time with your thoughts, experience ! tranquility, and expand your spiritual boundaries.

It is easy to avoid using our free moments for spiritual enrichment. There is always something seemingly more pressing that needs to be done. Many people feel guilty when they use their free time to engage in pursuits where they are focusing on themselves because they feel as if they are neglecting their family or their work. To make time for yourself, it may be necessary to say no to people's requests or refuse to take on extra responsibilities. Scheduling fifteen or thirty minutes of time each day for your spiritual needs can make you feel tranquil, give you more energy and allows you to feel more in touch with the universe. Writing in a journal, meditating, studying the words of wise women and men, and engaging in other spiritual practices can help you make the most of this time.

Making time to nurture your spirit may require that you sacrifice other, less vital activities. The more time you commit to soul-nurturing activities, the happier and more relaxed you will become. The time you devote to enriching your spirit will rejuvenate you and help you create a more restful life.

Fwd: How good life is.....

Value and appreciate the good times that you've known and the good things that you have. But don't worry about holding on to them so much that you miss the opportunity to fully live.

Keep the treasured memories safe and secure in the attic of your life. But don't pile them up so deeply that you cannot get out the door.

Every day presents you with new opportunities to make more beautiful memories. Every moment is your chance for a fresh and original experience of life's treasure.

It's great when you can remember how good life has been. It's even better to know, again and again in every moment, how truly good life is.

Life's abundance does not run out. In fact, the more good things you experience, the more good things there are to be experienced.

You cannot lose the joy and beauty that you've already known. So move confidently forward and experience even more.

12 Words and Phrases That Automatically Kill Your Self Image

Dangerous Words = Spurious spacers , Wimpy words

Spurious spacers are fillers that we put into speeches to fill the gaps when we are nervous or have to think about the next word to say. Repetitive use of these words can become pesky and annoying.

words to watch out
"Um...", "Err..."
"Like..."
"Actually.."
"Really.."

"Typically"

The next time you are in the audience at someone else's demo or presentation, keep track of how many times the presenter says one particular spacer, such as "like" or "you know." You may be astonished to find the number of uses of the spacer, is nearly double the number of sentences delivered.

Wimpy words express a sense of ambiguity, lack of definition and increase perceived complexity.

Words That Automatically Kill Your Self Image

"Know what I mean?"
"As you can see..."
"Sort of", "Kind of"
"Hopefully..."
"Needless to say…"

Tips to overcome the habit

1. If you can admit to yourself that you are one of those people who say such words, you can be more conscience in your conversations. List down the words you repeatedly use. Force awareness upon yourself. It might take a while for you to get over the habit. Keep noticing, until you stop!

2. Ask your loved ones and friends to help out.

Is it wrong to use these words? (My two cents)

However, in a "professional context" using these words can lead to career suicide. For example, when making a presentation or speaking to a client, we are compelled to portray a professional image. Using words like "sort of", "kind of" might imply that we are not being thorough.
The problem lies in switching from a "friendly" atmosphere to a "professional" atmosphere. After all, habit is a habit! How do you force yourself into awareness in one instance, and let loose, in another instance

Silk Clothes - [Hadith]

 A'Hadiths

Guidance from The Prophet (saws)

Hadrat Umar ibn Al-Khattab (Radi-Allah-o-Anho) reported: 'The Messenger of Allah (Salallah-o-Alaeh-e-Wasallam) said, "Do not wear silk (clothes). For whoever wears (them) in this life will be deprived of them in the Hereafter.'''
Related by Bukhari and Muslim.quoted from Riyad-us-Saliheen (Hadith # 804)

Commentary:

In light of the other authentic hadiths of the Prophet (saws), the believing women are permitted to wear silk garments; but the believing men who sincerely fear Allah and the Last Day are absolutely and categorically forbidden to adorn themselves with silk clothes or garments in the life of this world.
